Resting and enjoying what we've got so far

Finally got to relax and enjoy what we've been working for. Even Charlie was tired from all the excitement.

Here's some pictures of where we are now. Probably won't be back up for two weeks, trying to clear my mind and get refreshed on the project. Debating on hiring a roofer to speed things along. We'll see how the quotes look.

Couple odds and end

The two turnbuckles hold wires in place around the walls and the roof rafters. These are what keep the house structurally sound. They are tightened to a specific torque. Here's a picture of them before they get covered up.

And finally some art that formed on it's own.

Mudsills Up

Got the mudsill mounted. Quite a project 20 pieces lined up in sync.
I used 4X6 PT, this will allow the floors to sit easily lay on the mudsill without hitting the anchor bolts. You can see from the picture how they are notched down to allow clearance. Hopefully this will help with the setup.

Work Schedule

I'm reposting this because the schedule has changed slightly. We need to get the decking setup before the roof pieces go up. This is to allow us to put the roof rafter continuously from the center to the edge of the deck.

Wednesday
, Sept. 2 Delivery and unpack

Hopefully won't need more than 1 person this day.
I'll be getting a forklift delivered and the pallets will be coming. It will probably take all day to get the pallets unloaded and moved to the house and then inventory taken.

Thursday, Sept. 3 Install Floors
Floor pieces way about 200 lbs each. There are ten of them. They are set between a center pier and the stemwall. They are then nailed together and to the mudsill. The more help the better.

Friday, Sept. 4 Install Walls
Wall pieces are between 100 and 150 lbs. There are 20 of them. They are rested on the floor edge, then nailed to the top of the floor and the sides of both the floor and mudsill through the siding.
Once all pieces are in place, the top sections are toe nailed together and a wire and turnbuckle are placed and tightened.

Saturday, Sept. 5 Decks
There are 5 12' deck sections and 2 4' Deck sections. Each of these must be built from precut pieces. They are then bolted to the house and rested on piers. Boards are then face nailed and trimmed per section. This needs to be finished before the roof pieces. We will work on getting the joists set but hold off on the decking until the end of the project.

Sunday, Sept. 6. Roof
Roof pieces way about 200lbs each. There are twenty of them. First 20 beams are placed between a central circle supported by a temporary post and the exterior wall sections.
All walls are plumbed and the beams secured with Simpson brackets.
Next each roof piece is set in place using a forklift with cables attached to the top of the roof and dropped onto the beam sections. They are secured then secured.
When all pieces are placed a second wire and turnbuckle is placed that secures the full roof.

Monday, Sept. 7 Roof Deck
Roof decks are set similar to the normal roofing, except the roof sections are rested on posts from the deck edges.

This is the plan, we may move quicker or slower per day.

Demo of Smaller Yurt Setup

This is a 14' round yurt. The complete setup was done by five men working 13 hours over two days. Ours will be a little less than twice the size. But the set up will be exactly the same, only the pieces bigger. Also, the Rafter beams and ceiling pieces will be set with a forklift not by hand.

Foundation Poured

Got a picture from my contractor on the poured foundation. Passed inspection and all set.
The gaps are for the vents and crawlspace. The pieces will set on a center platform under the pier and extend out to the stem wall perimeter.
